Saint Theodore of Amacea
Saint Theodore of Amasea was a warrior and martyr, also known as Theodore Tyro, Tyron, Tiron or Teron. His birthdate is unknown.
His legend is that he was a soldier in the Army of Rome serving at Amasea, in what is now Northern Turkey. He was arrested for not joining his fellow soldiers in the worship of pagan gods, but was then set free.
He then set fire to the temple of the pagan goddess Cybele in Amasea. For that, he was arrested and sentenced to death.
Saint Theodore was martyred on February 17, 306 by being thrown into a furnace in Amasea, Turkey.
The attributes of his image include him dressed as a soldier or in court dress, with a spear, temple, torch, dragon or the wreath of a martyr.
