The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Patronage: United States; Spain; the Philippines; protection from sin; purity; motherhood; religious vocations.
December 8 celebrates the Immaculate Conception, the dogma proclaimed in 1854 that Mary was conceived without original sin, preserved by God in anticipation of the merits of Christ. This feast is not about Jesus’ conception, but Mary’s.
The Church honors her as the New Eve, full of grace from the first moment of her existence, chosen to bring Christ into the world. This day is one of the most important Marian feasts worldwide.
Saint Romaric of Remiremont (ca. 580–653)
Patronage: Religious life, monastic foundations, spiritual conversion.
Romaric was a nobleman in the Merovingian court who experienced a profound conversion. Leaving behind politics and wealth, he founded the double monastery of Remiremont (for men and women), where he became a gentle and wise abbot whose leadership inspired centuries of monastic reform.
Saint Patapius of Thebes (4th–5th century)
Patronage: Healing from disease, protection from spiritual afflictions.
Born in Egypt, he lived first as a desert hermit before relocating to Constantinople. Renowned for miracles and spiritual wisdom, he became one of the great ascetics of the Eastern Church.
Saint Leonard of Port Maurice (1676–1751) – OFM
Patronage: Preachers; missions; the Stations of the Cross; spiritual renewal.
A powerful Franciscan preacher whose missions revived faith throughout Italy. He established more than 500 Stations of the Cross, including the famous Via Dolorosa at the Colosseum.

St. Eucharius – 3rd-century missionary bishop of Trier.
St. Macarius of Alexandria – A hermit known for prayer and fasting.
St. Gelasius – Abbot noted for humility and charity.
St. Patapius’ companions – desert monks known for holiness.
Blessed María de los Ángeles Guerrero González – Spanish nun devoted to the poor.
