November 27 Celebration of Saints

Our Lady of the Miraculous Medallion

The Miraculous Medal, or the Medal of Our Lady of Graces, was created after Saint Catherine Labouré’s apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was approved in 1830. This devotional medal prepares the faithful to receive grace.

Symbols in the medal include: The letter M, representing Mary; The cross and bar, representing the Cross of Jesus; 12 stars, which represent the 12 apostles of Jesus; The Left Heart, the Sacred Heart who died for our sins; The Right Heart, the Immaculate Heart that intercedes for us; and Flames, which represent the burning love that Jesus and Mary have for us.

Saint Secundinus

Saint Secundinus, also known as Sechnall, was born in the 5th century in Ireland.

Secundinus was one of the first bishops of Ireland, in addition to Saint Palladius and Saint Patrick.

Historic annals document that Secundinus arrived in Ireland along with bishops Auxilius and Iserninus, to assist Saint Patrick.

However, later academic research claims that instead of coming to help Saint Patrick, they came to the assistance of Palladius, the first Bishop of Ireland who was also known as Patricio.

When Pope Leo recalled Pallatius to Rome in 441, Secundinus became the second bishop of Ireland.

At that time, Ireland was a pagan country that was somewhat hostile to Christianity. Secundinus and Saint Patrick had come to the country as missionaries of Christ, and Secundinus is attributed to have written a hymn in praise of Patrick – The Hymn of Secundinus, also known as Audite Omnes Amantes, or “Hear Ye, All Lovers.”

Secundius died in the 5th century, the first saint to die on Irish soil. Some historians claim that after his death, Secundinus was succeeded as the bishop of Ireland by Saint Patrick.
