Saint Edward the Confessor
Saint Edward the Confessor was born circa 1003 – 1005 in Islip, England. The term “confessor” is generally used to mean that a person did not die from martyrdom.
He was an Anglo-Saxon king of England, who ruled from 1042 to 1066.
King Edward the Confessor died in his early 60’s on January 5, 1066 in London, England.
A century later, on February 7, 1161, he was canonized a saint by Pope Alexander III. He was the patron saint of England from 1161 until 1350, when King George III bestowed that honor on Saint George.
His primary shrine is Westminster Abbey, the attributes of his saintly image may include a King crowned with a nimbus, a sceptre, or a martlet.
Although Edward is no longer the patron saint of England, he is the patron saint of difficult marriages, the English royal family and kings.
