Saint Blaise was a physician and the bishop of Sebastea in ancient Armenia (now Sivas, Turkey).
Blaise is one of the most popular saints of the Middle Ages. He is one of the “14 Holy Helpers,” saints known for their effective intercession.
The Acta Sanctorum documents that Blaise was martyred by being beaten and beheaded. His remains are in the basilica in Maratea, Italy.
